Meet the Co-Founders of Low Brass Project

Darrin C. Milling, bass trombone
Baltimore native Darrin C. Milling is bass trombone principal of São Paulo State Symphony (Brazil). He is  an instructor for the orchestra foundation’s Academy of Music, a board member of the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra Foundation, and a musical and organizational consultant for the National Symphony of Ecuador.

Darrin, as well as being a co-founder of Low Brass Project, is as an artist member of the Rodney Mack Philadelphia Big Brass Ensemble. He performed with his mentor Glenn Dodson in Posaune Decouple, along with trombonists from the New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, and San Francisco, Baltimore, and Utah symphony orchestras. He has also appeared on the Luzerne Chamber Music Festival Series. Darrin is an artist of the Edwards Instrument Company.

Edwin J. Diefes, tuba
Low Brass Project co-founder Edwin J. Diefes is principal tuba with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra. He was principal with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra from 1995 to 2010.

In addition to his commitment to orchestral music, Ed performs as a soloist and chamber musician. In 2003 he premiered Meyer Kupferman's Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra with the Czech National Symphony.

He has taught at Syracuse University, Festival Internacional de Inverno de Campos do Jordao, and New York State Summer School of the Arts.
